Siberian cold coincides with unstable weather conditions and heavy snowfall in several areas of Syria on Thursday.
Arab Weather - Weather experts at Arab Weather said that the latest readings received from advanced computer simulation models indicate the emergence of a weather condition with complex characteristics, combining the remnants of the Siberian cold present in the region, coinciding with the passage of a low-pressure system in the upper atmosphere over northern Levant, specifically Syria and Lebanon, which leads to the emergence of unstable weather conditions from Thursday until Friday morning, January 23, 2026.
Experts explained that this weather condition is expected to produce heavy rainfall, accompanied by heavy and accumulating snowfall in several areas of northern Syria.
Siberian cold coincides with unstable weather conditions and heavy snowfall in several areas of Syria on Thursday.
In detail, it is expected, God willing, that a cold trough in the upper layers of the atmosphere will push towards the northern Levant, coinciding with the presence of the remnants of the extremely cold continental Siberian air mass centered over the region, leading to the formation of a state of atmospheric instability with complex characteristics.
This situation leads to the formation of large quantities of clouds and heavy rainfall in large areas of Syria and Lebanon, which may be accompanied by hail. The heavy rainfall in some areas may lead to the formation of surface runoff and a rise in water levels.
As a result of the continued impact of the Siberian cold, it is expected, God willing, that heavy snowfall will occur over large areas of northern Syria, especially the border regions with Turkey, including the governorates of Aleppo, Raqqa, Deir ez-Zor, and a number of other northern regions and governorates, amidst a significant drop in temperatures to below zero degrees Celsius.
Snowfall is also expected on the Syrian coastal highlands on Thursday, especially during the evening and night hours, in addition to snow covering the high areas of Lebanon.
What about Palestine and Jordan?
As for the rest of the Levant, including Jordan and Palestine, cold to very cold weather is expected, with a chance of scattered local showers on Thursday, while the main effects of the weather system will remain far from the Kingdom and Palestine, and will be mainly concentrated on northern Syria and extending towards Lebanon.
And God knows best.
